The biggest mitzvah is to help somebody help themselves and that is what Illini Chabad and Rabbi Dovid and Goldie Tiechtel do for the University of Illinois campus and students. They don't just serve us like some restaurant with free dinner every Friday night. Thursday evening we braid challah with Goldie. We cook five courses for over 120 people. But it's not just the delicious meal, it's the pride of cooking it yourself and being able to do it in the future for your own family. It is learning about the mitzvah of challah. It is two hours of talking with friends, and realizing at the end time has flown by. It is coming Friday night for Shabbat and it is like coming to your family’s house. Because at Chabad we are a family. Being part of the family and as student presidents, we prepare all that we can. But there is no amount of planning and no pricetag that accounts for the thriving Jewish campus life. This is what makes the choice of skipping the sports game or frat party on Friday night easy, because Friday night at Chabad is not worth missing. The pride for Jewish values and ideals motivate us as presidents to reach out to every Jewish student on campus and instill the pride of community and culture that we have. Everyone on campus should have somewhere to go they call home, and have someone to call family. Everyone deserves what Chabad provides, and deserves to be proud of who they are on campus. We are happy you are joining us in being proud to be a part of Illini Chabad!
